Computational mechanics of concrete and concrete like materials, within various modelling formulations and theoretical frameworks, continues to be a very active research field. Understanding of the material behaviour, overall robustness of the computational algorithms and the mathematical rigour of the underlying formulations have increased significantly, ensuring reliable numerical predictions in practice. The EURO-C conference series (Zell am See 1990, Innsbruck 1994) brings together at regular four year intervals both researchers and practising engineers involved in computational modelling of concrete structures, in order to review and discuss novel research efforts and to assess the suitability and robustness of advanced methods and models for the analysis of concrete, reinforced concrete or prestressed concrete structures in engineering practice.A total of 102 conference papers are subdivided into 6 sections: 1. Constitutive and numerical modelling; 2. Localisation and failure; 3. Creep, temperature problems and environmental effects; 4. Dynamic response and cyclic loading; 5. Reinforced/prestressed concrete and interface problems; and 6. Automated design procedures, safety and stability, structural concrete. It is believed that the EURO-C 1998 Proceedings provide a major reference text and that the conference has identified research results and concepts which can readily be applied to reliable, high quality modelling of concrete structures.
