Japan's Software Factories

Analyzes a number of Japanese computer manufacturers and their efforts to compete successfully with US software companies. The text explores the concept of Japanese "software factories", in which large numbers of people are engaged in developing computer software in co-operative ways. Though Japan has successfully competed with US computer makers in manufacturing and marketing hardware, it has been less successful in developing software that competes with US software companies. This book analyses how a number of Japanese firms, in an effort to catch up, have created what are called `software factories' in which large numbers of people are engaged in developing software in co-operative ways.
