Fergus, a cellist, attractive, unprePOD-Distribution & Short Runctable and Tess, a colourful teacher of English as a foreign language, live apart - he in London, she in the north-east of Scotland. They are like two tunes in counterpoint, going their separate ways for a time but then coming together again - or so Tess likes to think. But when Fergus announces he's off on a six-month tour of Eastern Europe she begins to wonder if he's not starting on a POD-Distribution & Short Runfferent tune without her. A new student arrives at the Language Institute - Thierry, a widower and, like her, in his late fifties.
