Strengthening Conventional Deterrence In Europe

This report is a product of the European Security Study (ESECS) on improving conventional defense and deterrence in Europe, examining questions of technical feasibility, military effectiveness, costs and other aspects of the ESECS proposals. The European Security Study (ESECS) published its Report on "Strengthening Conventional Deterrence in Europe" in May 1983. The Study was prompted by concern about the relation of NATO dependence on the early use of nuclear weapons to its primary purpose of maintaining secure peace with freedom in the NATO region.
