Whether they are called bedside tables for Pharaonic Egypt, pillows in Asian cultures or headrests among the peoples of black Africa and Oceania, the some ninety sculptures gathered in this work have been designed to be effective dream carriers.But to understand these works, it is necessary, beyond observations on their apparent functions, rest or protection of the hairstyle, to focus on their plastic and symbolic dimensions. These everyday objects respond to often complex functions: protecting the sleeper's head from any dangerous contact, favoring the advent of dreams, or constituting a determining element of funerary furniture as a support-mediator in the afterlife.
