As the proud owner of one of the tea gardens in the the Chinese Yunnan region, your mission in Tea Garden is to cultivate and expand your empire by establishing new tea gardens along the serene river valley. Tea leaves are your most prized asset, with six grades of tea quality and each region producing a different quality of tea. Transform your fresh, vibrant green tea leaves through fermentation, elevating them to rich, aromatic brown leaves that grow in quality — and value! — as they mature. Harness the power of your deck of cards to orchestrate up to four main actions each game round. The strength of these cards is important for performing the chosen action; the higher the strength, the better the effects you will achieve. With your cards, you will build new tea gardens, acquire new cards, trade your tea with eager caravans, ferment your tea leaves, and harvest more tea. Couple your main actions with the power of secondary actions to navigate the river, produce tea cups, or practice tea studies at the university. Tea Garden is a medium-weight euro-style game by Tomáš Holek. Tomáš is technically a debuting author, but at this year’s Spiel he’ll introduce three of his designs – Tea Garden one of them, the other two being SETI from Czech Games Edition and Galileo Galileo from Pink Troubadour. It might be a first time that someone is debuting with three complex strategic games simultaneously. Tea Garden is for 2 to 4 players of age 12 and up with a play time around 90 minutes. It takes you on a journey back to the early days of tea cultivation in ancient China. The basic gameplay mechanism is deck-building. With their cards the players will perform a variety of actions that will allow them to collect victory points. However, one of the most interesting parts is the management of tea leaves themselves (they serve as one of the game’s resources): divided into fresh and fermented - and while the fresh ones lose quality at the end of each round, the fermented ones gain it.

In Tea Garden neem je de rol aan van eigenaar van een theeplantage en bouw je stap voor stap aan jouw thee-imperium. Van frisse groene bladeren tot diep gefermenteerde aroma’s, elke keuze bepaalt de waarde van jouw oogst. Dit strategische bordspel draait om deck- en bag building en het automatisch genereren van grondstoffen. Tijdens elke ronde speel je kaarten uit jouw persoonlijke deck om vier hoofdacties uit te voeren, waarbij sterkere kaarten krachtigere effecten opleveren. Je kunt plantages uitbreiden om je productie te vergroten, kaarten verwerven om je deck te verbeteren, handelen met karavanen om inkomsten en voordelen te behalen, of theebladeren fermenteren en oogsten om hun kwaliteit en waarde te verhogen. Ondertussen groeit de thee automatisch door op je plantages, waardoor je economie steeds efficiënter wordt. Door acties slim te combineren en je deck doelgericht op te bouwen, groeit je theerijk met elke ronde. Het spel eindigt na de afgesproken rondes, waarna End Game Bonussen bepalen wie het meest welvarende theerijk heeft opgebouwd.
