Bradley looks back on a life well lived and researches the validity of a guiding principle that dates all the way back to Buddha and Boethius. He offers his own opinion on the rape of the globe's resources through overpopulation and "the eternal inadequacy of man's intelligence". Society's insistence on the pursuit of perfection is an illusion that hinders many more than it helps, and he suggests there is a better goal.
