Vidura and Niti

Vidura, a prominent figure in the Mahabharata, was a highly revered statesman, known for his deep understanding of dharma and the righteous conduct. He was the prime minister of Hastinapur and a half-brother to Dhritarashtra and Pandu. Vidura's advice to Dhritarashtra, before the Mahabharata war, is known as Vidura Niti. It is found in the Udyoga Parva (Book 5, Chapters 33-40) of Mahabharata. Vidura Niti offers insights into the qualities of a good ruler, emphasizing the importance of justice, welfare, and the well-being of the people. Through his teachings, Vidura wanted to convince Dhritarashtra to advise the latter's son Duryodhana to avert the war, but failed in this attempt because of the arrogant and rigid stand of Duryodhana.
