The Effect of English Collocation Instruction on TOEIC Reading Comprehension. This paper examines the effect of English collocation instruction on TOEIC reading comprehension among English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners. Previous research has suggested that formulaic language and lexical chunks facilitate automatic language processing and improve reading fluency. In particular, Kyunghee Choi (2011) demonstrated that chunk-based instruction significantly improved Korean learners' TOEIC reading scores. Building upon this study, the present paper reviews major theoretical and empirical research concerning collocation learning and reading comprehension. The findings suggest that explicit collocation instruction enhances lexical processing speed, inferencing ability, and overall TOEIC reading performance. Pedagogical implications for EFL instruction and TOEIC preparation are discussed.
