Bol Partner 150 Golden Years - The history of the Black Dyke (Mills) Band is being published to coincide with the 150th anniversary of Black Dyke Band. Diverse figures from outside the brass band movement such as Paul McCartney, Edward Heath, Russ Abbott, Andre Previn and Alan Titchmarsh all have strong links with this exquisite musical combination which recorded Paul McCartney's Thingumybob , provided the atmospheric backing for the popular TV programme Groundforce and has featured at the Royal Albert Hall alongside the London Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Andre Previn. However, the focus of the book is mainly on conductors and principal players, as well as composers and adjudicators from within the brass band world. Dr Newsome also goes into some detail about contest successes, concert activities, and connections with radio, television and the recording industry. The band's worldwide travel is discussed, from its first overseas venture in 1906 when it toured extensively in Canada and USA to the more recent tours which have covered the globe, not only revisiting USA and Canada, but playing to full houses in Australia and New Zealand, Sierra Leone, and repeated visits to the tiny island of Bermuda in mid-Atlantic. In this volume Roy Newsome provides the first definitive account of a unique and powerful musical phenomenon. The fascinating text is backed up with 90 photographs of great variety.
