Rhymes as a coping mechanism for dealing with the ever-changing reality of growing up.Poetry for coping with trauma, love and self-discoveryA mix of poems about love, trauma, relationships turning sour, and self-discovery. An attempt to show the unfiltered reality of experiences like sexual assault and abusive relationships while trying to destroy the stigma society places upon the victims of these issues. A personal touch to a narrative others will be able to recognise, as well as striving to illustrate that these issues can be conquered. A showcase of words and prose to help mend some of the pain and difficulties of life. Over de auteur Helena Goossens Helena Goossens is a poet and is currently studying philosophy and English at the university of Antwerp. She is Flemish and is based in Antwerp. '18 years of life’ is her first poetry volume. With an interest in English literature and poetry, it seemed natural to start writing. As a child of divorce, victim of sexual assault and an abusive relationship, she approaches poetry as a coping mechanism and combines it with the desire to destroy taboos around harsher subjects. Helena hopes to pursue a career in teaching and writing once her degree is finished.
