During this event, which established Art Deco, numerous decorators, manufacturers, magazines, department stores, artists, and even foreign nations competed fiercely to take over Parisian buildings, while others erected temporary structures to showcase their latest creations. Protean and elusive, this movement brings together a range of modern forms, patterns, materials and techniques used by designers such as Jean Puiforcat, Maurice Marinot, Suzanne and Ren Lalique, Pierre Chareau, Jacques-mile Ruhlmann, Andr Groult and others. Through eight essays, twelve focus sections and image portfolios, this catalog covers the many incarnations of Art Deco, from its beginnings in the 1910s to its contemporary reinterpretations, including its golden age at the 1925 Exhibition.
