A COMREHENSIVE APPROACH ON THE PRODUCTION OF SELECTED GRAIN CROPS: CEREAL CROP TOOL

The main purpose of the book is to reduce global food insecurity challenges by availing cereal crops literature from which any climate could have one or more crop options. Crops contained are maize, sorghum, barley, pearl millet, finger millet, oats, rye, triticale, rice and wheat in that order respectively. Compilation of information was based on search literature, some involvement / exposure to practical activities and demonstrations. Each crop is covered in the order of crop name, world importance, history and origin, uses, botanical characteristics, ecological requirements, choice of cultivars, planting, plant population, fertilizer requirements, irrigation, crop protection, maturity indices, harvesting, post-harvest technologies, production and financial records, conclusion and bibliography. The author ensured that the crops contained represent climatic extremes inclusive of cold, warm, high rainfall, arid and marginalized regions paving way for some shifts by other regions permeating for coping with current prevailing climate change phenomenon. The book avails the literature that can be used to relocate crops into new locations as would be permitted by changes in climate.
