A Healthy Church: How to Discern Accountability, Transparency, and Biblical Leadership

What makes a church healthy?Healthy churches are not perfect churches. They are churches committed to biblical leadership, meaningful accountability, financial integrity, transparency, and the recognition that Jesus Christ-not any individual leader-is the Head of the Church. In A Healthy Church, Steven Johnson offers practical, Scripture-grounded guidance to help believers recognize the characteristics of a healthy local church. Drawing from biblical principles and years of ministry and leadership experience, he examines how authority should function, why accountability matters, how churches should handle finances and conflict, and what believers should consider before making a church their spiritual home.Written for pastors, church leaders, and everyday believers alike, A Healthy Church is not an attack on the Church or a call to distrust leadership. It is an invitation to pursue something better: churches where leaders serve rather than control, questions can be asked without fear, finances are handled with integrity, people are treated with grace, and Christ remains at the center.Whether you are evaluating a church, serving in leadership, or simply longing to see your congregation become healthier, this book will help you approach church life with wisdom, discernment, and a deeper appreciation for Christ's design for His Church.
