A Retrospective Collection is a scholarly work by Sun Chongtao, a well-known researcher of traditional Chinese opera. Its main contents include a systematic summary of the three fundamental pillars of Chinese opera studies: operatic theory, operatic historiography, and the study of operatic documents; an outline of the author's own research trajectory; studies on the classic Zhejiang opera The Story of the Pipa and the regional opera Wenzhou Kunqu; reflections and critiques of several of the author's teachers and friends in the art world; and the author's personal insights and summaries regarding his scholarly approach. This volume integrates academic inquiry, historical documentation, personal recollection, and creative prose into a single work.
