At a New England community college, Micky and her circle of friends juggle classes, jobs and thin wallets while a run of thefts works its way across campus - a wallet and a copy of Hamlet taken from a locked faculty office, laptops lifted from the library, a car broken into in the lot. What the crime log treats as a joke becomes harder to laugh off when Micky finds a small brown notebook in her own backpack, filled with abbreviations and numbers she cannot explain. Marilyn S. Black's novel moves through forty-two short chapters and the ordinary business of student life, and was inspired, she writes, by her own English students.
