A Woman Persists analyses a broad selection of materials including autobiographical and fictional novels, plays, historiographic texts, and social media hashtags, from the early twentieth century through the present, offering a look at the connections between sociopolitical events, feminist activism, and cultural production in Italy. Manifesto di una donna nera italiana, this book constructs an alternative archive that draws heavily on the work of feminist literary scholars and queer theorists to show the way Italian identity is both unchanging and always contested.
