Abraham the PROPHET of BARCELONA A Musical Drama in Two Acts: Based on Life, Visions, and Writings Abulafia

A visionary musical drama about prophecy, exile, the Divine Name, and the tormented genius of Abraham Abulafia.Abraham: The Prophet of Barcelona is a powerful two-act musical drama based on the life, visions, writings, and controversies of the medieval Jewish mystic Abraham Abulafia. Drawing from Sefer Ha-Ot, Imrei Shefer, and the historical record, Antony Hylton transforms Abulafia's extraordinary journey into a dramatic sequence of songs, visions, debates, exile, and prophetic encounter.Set between Barcelona, Rome, Greece, and the island of Comino, the drama follows Abulafia from his early mystical awakening through years of torment, conflict with scholars, his failed mission to meet Pope Nicholas III, his excommunication, and his final years of writing on the mystery of the Divine Name. At the heart of the story is Abulafia's burning conviction that the letters of the Name-Yod, Heh, Vav, Heh-contain the secret of redemption, prophecy, and the healing of the nations.Combining sacred drama, Jewish mysticism, theological conflict, and cinematic rock-musical energy, this work explores the tension between Torah, philosophy, Kabbalah, prophecy, and messianic hope. Songs such as "The Hand Was Upon Me," "The Gospel According to Abraham," "Rashba's Decree," "The Horseman," "Words of Beauty," and "Be Strong" bring Abulafia's inner world to life with intensity, beauty, and spiritual urgency. For readers interested in Abraham Abulafia, Jewish mysticism, Kabbalah, medieval prophecy, Messianic themes, musical theatre, and sacred dramatic literature, Abraham: The Prophet of Barcelona offers a bold and original retelling of one of history's most controversial visionary figures.
