By: Dr. Albert Bruce Pruitt, Pub. 2000, reprinted 2026, 374 pages, Index, soft cover, ISBN #978-1-63914-790-8. After the death of Lord Granville in 1763, the land office for NC was closed. It was reopened in 1777, a year after it declared itself a sovereign state. This allowed new settlers the chance to purchase vacant lands to anyone who took the oath of allegiance to the new state. These abstracts of Books 40-43 cover 2,562 grants which were located in Johnston, Granville, Orange, Nash, Surry, Duplin, Caswell, Tryon, Edgecombe, Hyde, Wilkes, Mecklenburg, Dobbs, Pitt, Richmond, Rowan, Lincoln, Franklin, Montgomery, and Camden Counties between 1778 and 1784.
