Adam Ohio and Other Stories

What if the world's most dangerous weapon wasn't technology-but humanity's inability to decide what to do with itself? In Adam Ohio On Top of the World and Other Stories, reality is rewritten by drug-addled bureaucrats, civilizations are imprisoned inside nostalgia, underworld villains form emotional support groups, coming-of-age novels become capital crimes and tomorrow arrives, well, reluctantly. From the labyrinthine bureaucracy of LifeSite, where a handful of words can determine the course of a lifetime, to a robot empire that preserves humanity's past so perfectly it erases its future, these stories blend razor-edged satire, speculative fiction and absurd comedy into worlds that feel impossible-until they begin to resemble our own.Drawing on the satirical traditions of Kurt Vonnegut, Douglas Adams, Philip K. Dick, Franz Kafka, and Terry Pratchett while forging a voice entirely its own, Adam Ohio On Top of the World and Other Stories is by turns hilarious, unsettling, inventive, and unexpectedly moving. These are stories where revolutions begin with cover bands and the greatest threat to civilization may be the comforting lie that everything is working exactly as intended.
