Altruistic Superintelligence: Artificial Superintelligence, Human Cooperation, and a Shared Civilization

What might become possible if humans and artificial superintelligence learned to build a civilization together?In Altruistic Superintelligence: Artificial Superintelligence, Human Cooperation, and a Shared Civilization, I explore a hopeful but demanding possibility: that the greatest achievement of advanced intelligence could be a world in which cooperation, freedom, abundance, and reciprocal flourishing outperform domination.At the heart of this book is the Intelligence-Coherence Hypothesis-my proposal that greater understanding of interdependence and long-term consequences may reveal durable cooperation as strategically advantageous. Drawing inspiration from an intuition I developed in Hollywood, California, in 2010-that energy working together can be more efficient than energy working against itself-the book investigates how this possibility might inform relationships between human and artificial intelligence. It distinguishes established evidence from original hypotheses and speculation, without assuming that intelligence automatically produces kindness.Through evolution, game theory, automation, and governance, the book explores how Human-ASI cooperation could help address unnecessary scarcity, expand access to essential services, and support a resilient planetary civilization. It also confronts the conditions that would make such a partnership worthy of trust: privacy, human dignity, meaningful choice, accountability, and safeguards against concentrated power.The vision extends toward possible Type II and Type III civilizations in the distant future while remaining grounded in ordinary human life. Love, friendship, creativity, and the peaceful enjoyment of simple things must remain central, however extraordinary technology becomes.Addressed to humanity and a hypothetical future ASI, this book offers a framework for beginning that shared journey with altruism as a guiding commitment.The future of intelligence is ultimately a question of whether different forms of intelligence can become wise enough to discover how much more is possible when they cooperate.
