Always Reaching: Stove Burners > Afterburners

ALWAYS REACHING, > Afterburners Book One of the Intrepid Seeker Series is a memoir of becoming-of a life that begins with humble kitchen heat and rises to controlling jet fighter flames. Growing up far from flight decks and afterburners, a young man learns early about work, discipline, and desire. What begins near kitchen stove burners-where focus, timing, and patience matter-eventually pulls him toward a far more unforgiving flame: U.S. Navy jet fighter aviation. This first volume of The Intrepid Seeker Series traces the journey from Brooklyn roots through the crucible of Navy flight training during the early jet age. It is a world defined by exacting standards, relentless instructors, and moments where confidence and fear occupy the same cockpit. From first solos and long classroom days to carrier qualifications and the raw power of flying the F-4B Phantom, the story captures what it truly takes to earn wings of gold. Yet beneath the technical mastery and camaraderie runs a quieter current. Friendship becomes survival. Humor becomes armor. And love-especially the lingering presence of Marianne-haunts the margins of ambition. Memory, longing, and self-doubt fly formation with every milestone. Written with candor, warmth, and understated humor, Always Reaching is not about learning to fly-it is about learning who you are while always reaching for something just beyond your grasp.
