The heyday of American art pottery was from the late 1880s to the late 1920s and nowadays it is highly collectable. The author has selected 100 of the finest examples from the holdings of the Everson Museum of Art, New York, including American art tiles. Through these items she traces the development of the pottery, from the early handcrafted wares through to the encroachment of mechanization.;Descriptions of individual potters and companies are provided, together with detailed commentaries. Among the companies are Rookwood, Grueby and Weller; among the potters are Maria Longworth Nichols, Artus Van Briggle, Adelaide Alsop Robineau, Kataro Shirayamadani and George Ohr.
