Of the nine species of Phloeosinus (Coleoptera: Scolytinae) present in Mexico, Phloeosinus baumanni Hopkins is considered one of the three species of economic importance due to its incidence on white cypress (Hesperocyparis lusitanica). Despite its relevance, it presents a deficit of taxonomic studies, a bias in the sampling that supports its distribution and problems in the recognition between sister species. For this reason, the present research work had as objectives to analyze the morphological variation of 21 collection sites, to evaluate the usefulness of the proposed characters and to propose new attributes, and the analysis of the shape of the pronotum and elytra by geometric morphometry, in addition to examining the possible existence of undescribed species.
