The short-story, is one of the most important literary subgenres in Urdu literature, despite its relative youth. This was influenced by western and literary concepts and tendencies, as well as the contemporary industrial and mechanized environment. Hayatullah Ansari's personality is full of qualities. He was a distinguished novelist, a skilled journalist and critic, as well as an educationist. He was primarily a progressive writer and a leader of the Urdu Movement. He was interested in fiction from the very beginning and this trend continued until the end. He founded a new style by combining the schools of French and Russian realism. Most of his stories depict social conflicts, especially the problems of the lower classes. Poverty, pain, anguish and sorrow abound in them. The value of man and the realism of life are the basic characteristics of Hayatullah Ansari's stories.
