The protection of mother animals is held in high regard in the hunting community and is also enshrined in law. Hunters who adhere to ethical hunting practices thus prevent young animals from being orphaned, suffering developmental setbacks due to a lack of maternal care, or ultimately even dying. This paper presents a number of ways in which hunting and animal welfare can be reconciled, with a view to preventing future breaches of the Law on the Protection of Mother Animals in particular, and animal welfare legislation in general.
