As It Was Written: How Jesus and the Church Fulfill God's Promises to Israel

In "As It Was Written," Pastor Mike Shingler takes the reader on a theological journey of covenant promise and fulfillment across old and new testaments, showing that Jesus Christ is the great object and ultimate fulfillment of all God's promises. This book challenges the interpretive system known as dispensationalism, which makes a separation between Israel and the church and looks to a future millennium and earthly temple for the fulfillment of Old Testament promises regarding Israel. As a former dispensationalist himself, Pastor Shingler argues that the Scriptures, themselves, testify that these promises find their goal and fulfillment in the person and work of Christ. He does this, with a winsome style, by tracing the progressive revelation of God's covenantal promises from creation to their ultimate fulfillment in Christ. Key themes include the unity of Scripture, the Old Testament covenants, and the role of land, seed, temple, and kingdom in God's redemptive plan. The study challenges readers to see the Bible as a unified story centered on Jesus, leading to a deeper appreciation of the rich covenantal inheritance God has bestowed upon his people by grace.
