Bach: Cantatas & Arias / Ian Bostridge, Fabio Biondi, L'Europa Galante

An exciting collaboration between the tenor Ian Bostridge and violinist and director Fabio Biondi in two Bach cantatas, the great ‘Ich habe genug’, in the version for high voice, and Bach’s only cantata for solo tenor, ‘Ich armer Mensch, ich Sündenknecht’. The versitility and lyrical beauty of Ian Bostridge’s voice finds its perfect complement in the expressive intensity of Fabio Biondi’s ensemble Europa Galante and this release follows a highly-praised performance of these two cantatas at the BBC Proms in July, of which the Times wrote: ‘Biondi’s understanding of each gleaming facet of the music… made this a revelatory performance. Bostridge’s "Schlummert ein" was the sweetest of lullabies.’ The programme is completed by a selection of favourite cantata arias and sinfonias.
