Bangladesh at a Crossroads of Reforms: Results the 2025 Governance and Macrofiscal Pillars Assessment

Results of a Governance and Macrofiscal Pillars (GMaP) assessment are presented, focusing on Bangladesh's legal, regulatory, policy, institutional structures, and national level systems and practices. Potential governance risks and development opportunities are outlined. This publication presents and summarizes the results of the GMaP assessment conducted by the Asian Development Bank for the Government of Bangladesh. It highlights governance risks associated with policies, institutions, and practices that can impact macrofiscal stability frameworks, with a focus on Bangladesh's legal, regulatory, policy, and institutional structures, systems, and practices on the national level. Focal areas are outlined that could contribute to a holistic reform pathway that provides policymakers with information to assist in identification of opportunities and challenges and prioritization, leading to the broadest governance and macrofiscal outcomes.
