25-year-old Teoni Stevens has lived a life full of nonstop horrors. From leaving an abusive home to surviving juvie to participating in gang activity, burglary, murder-it's just been one thing after another, and losing her friends to gang wars had been the last straw. Fast forward to now, she has moved to a new town, hoping for a fresh start. When one of her new friends offers her a security guard position at a low-performing high school, Teoni decides to accept the position, determined to make use of her bloody history by preventing kids from walking down the same path she did. All she wants to do is keep her head down and work hard...but things get complicated when she meets a very fine but very protective teacher named Jules.27-year-old Jules Everson is living the dream life. She has a job she loves, kids who adore her, a school that respects her, and she has the best friends and family a Black queer woman could ever ask for. So many things have gone her way, and with how popular she is, nobody would ever guess how non-existent her love life is. She tells people she has no time to date when in reality, she's picky about what she wants and isn't a very good partner. When she learns about a new security guard, she's ready to be on their case because if there's one thing she doesn't play about, it's the safety of her students. But when Jules meets Teoni, she finds herself drawn to her in ways she's unprepared for. Jules is far from perfect, and the one who can complement her jagged edges may be closer than she thinks.
