What really happens in Guatemala once the garbage truck drives away from our homes? Behind monthly fees and the daily removal of trash bags lies an unprecedented sanitary and institutional crisis. This study exposes the country's invisible reality: from the technical collapse of the AMSA landfill and the contradictions of Regulation 164-2021, to the informal dynamics that sustain the metropolitan system. Through a rigorous, mixed descriptive-proposing approach, this work demonstrates that the waste problem in Guatemalan territory is not due to a lack of resources, but rather to a profound operational blindness and an obsolete linear model that confuses transport logistics with environmental engineering. Beyond the diagnosis, these pages formulate a new operational and technological architecture tailored to the local reality. By proposing smart container islands, flow control via RFID cards, the institutionalization of the Master Composter, and weight-based monitoring, this book outlines the critical path to transform waste into strategic capital, turning the crisis into a window of sustainability for 21st-century Guatemala.
