Bells of Mourning

In the crooked city of Spectorton, the dead are rarely the greatest problem.Ghosts wander the streets. Forgotten memories grow on trees. Carnivals bargain for grief. Brides wait beneath haunted bridges, cathedrals dream, and bells ring for people who died centuries ago. When the restless dead refuse to move on, the mysterious Bells of Mourning Society is called.Led by the solemn undertaker Mortimer Frost, alongside the brilliant inventor Lyanna Sand, the steadfast gravedigger Crawley Percy, and the enigmatic young woman known only as Whisper, the Society investigates hauntings unlike any the city has ever known. Each case uncovers another piece of a forgotten mystery buried beneath Spectorton itself-a terrible secret hidden since the city's earliest days.As strange hauntings become increasingly connected, the Society discovers that every ghost, every broken promise, every forgotten name, and every stolen memory leads toward an ancient force waiting beneath the streets. A force that believes grief should never be carried by the living... because it intends to keep it forever.Blending dark fantasy, gothic mystery, bittersweet humour, and haunting imagination, Bells of Mourning is a collection of twelve interconnected tales inspired by the ghost-hunting adventure of classic supernatural stories, reimagined through a richly atmospheric, Burtonesque lens.Perfect for readers who love whimsical gothic fantasy, memorable characters, eerie mysteries, and stories where even the strangest ghosts still have a heart worth saving.
