Between Smoke and Silence

Sasolburg is burning-quietly, efficiently, beneath the surface of official speeches and sealed tenders. Kabelo Maseko, a gifted municipal strategist, knows how to make corruption sound like progress. Naledi Phiri, a journalist from Mankweng, arrives chasing the truth behind a fuel contract that smells of betrayal. When a whistleblower dies and a missing annexure resurfaces, Kabelo and Naledi find themselves caught between loyalty and conscience. Their connection is inconvenient, electric-and dangerous. As protests erupt in Jouberton and threats arrive through encrypted messages, they must decide whether to protect their careers or expose a system built on silence. But the deeper they dig, the more they uncover a network that stretches beyond Sasolburg-toward mines, heritage corridors, and chrome-laced conspiracies. This is the beginning of a trilogy where love is forged in fire, and truth demands more than courage. Because silence, once broken, echoes across provinces.
