Optical Character Recognition (OCR) systems are widely used for extracting text from printed documents, yet their accuracy largely depends on image quality. With the rapid advancement of smartphone technology, mobile devices have become powerful tools for document digitization through built-in cameras. However, capturing images via mobile cameras introduces challenges such as perspective distortion, uneven lighting, noise, and skew. Although mobile processing capabilities have significantly improved, bilingual OCR applications remain limited, particularly for documents containing both Gurmukhi and Roman scripts. Such mixed-script content is common in educational books and bilingual dictionaries in Punjab, where English words frequently appear within Gurmukhi text. To address this need, a bilingual mobile OCR application was developed for Android.
