Blondie and the Bear: A Steampunk novella

A world of gears, ancient magic, and a... talking bear? In the coastal village of Ranva, young Silvie feels the walls closing in. Surrounded by a family she loves but suffocated by the monotony of safe roads and familiar faces, she yearns for the world beyond the edge of the map. When she finally boards a steam-powered locomotive bound for the unknown, she carries only a few hundred dekars, a mysterious glowing crystal, and her mother's book of medicinal plants. Silvie's journey takes her across the Lazulia Sea and into the bustling, sky-high markets of Verpeza, where technology and archaic knowledge blend into mechanical wonders. But her true test begins in the marshy wilds of Gidona. While apprenticing under a sharp-witted, centuries-old alchemist, Silvie ventures too deep into the forest and comes face-to-face with a creature of legend: a massive, upright, and strangely mournful bear.As Silvie and the bear form an unlikely alliance, witches return, and they are hunting more than just forest dwellers. They are seeking to finish a blood feud that began before Silvie was even born. From the elegant, gear-driven restaurants of the city to the bone-littered depths of forgotten caves, Blondie & the Bear is a sweeping tale of discovery, courage, and the enduring power of family.
