Borderlands

"Borderlands are where there is an end to what we control, and a beginning of that which is controlled by another, or where the Other begins. Where differences are settled, or where differences settle down." These short stories loosely organized around the theme of borderlands, crossing points, and national borders involve travel, locales where no travel can take place, new steps in this life, characters whose lives come to an end, and topographies of frozen confrontation. Afghanistan, Cyprus, Iraq, Malta, Tunisia, and China are among the locales that appear in the book. The author spent most of his adult life living and working in Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. This third edition has been tidied-up, reformatted, and given a new introduction. 40,000 words
