Bol Sandro Botticelli's Primavera (1472-1482) is an exquisite gem of the Florentine Renaissance, becoming famous not only for the consummate skill of the painter, but because its meaning has remained an enigma over the centuries. Many people have endeavoured to find the 'message' of the Primavera, but no general agreement has been reached about this. Dr. Anderson now provides a new interpretation which draws on the work of Rudolf Steiner. However, the painting is in a very poor condition with regard to its original colours; it has become almost entirely grey or black, due to the decay of the pigments, only the colours of the characters retaining some of their original hue.The author has used a computer to transform the layers of blackness covering the painting into approximately what might have been the original hues. This painstaking labour has revealed a Paradise scene, filled with rich green foliage and many scores of beautiful flowers. This booklet includes 8 full colour illustrations, indicating to the reader what the original hues of this painting may been some 500 years ago; in this way helping the observer to discern the spiritual message of this masterpiece.
