Bru Identity in Displacement: History, Camps, and the State Tripura

This book traces the journeys of Bru (Reang) communities across the shifting territorial landscapes of Northeast India-from early movements to the 1997 violence in Mizoram, years in relief camps in Tripura, and their ongoing resettlement. Through a close reading of historical records, policy documents, and life stories, it shows how displacement is lived through land, camps, village sites, and the everyday negotiations that follow. By bringing together debates on internal displacement, state policy, and the re-making of home in new locations, the book argues that Bru identity is continually reshaped in relation to territory, administration, and community initiatives.
