A thought-provoking historical novel set in Oxfordshire, telling the story of a normal family in the 1960s and the unusual circumstances they find themselves in after Pam falls pregnant in her teens. When Pam, an only child in her teens, falls pregnant in 1950’s Oxford, her wealthy father is incensed. Despite his protests and her unfortunate position, she decides to keep the baby and to marry the father. As their working-class life in Cowley moves on, Pam’s father Harry begins to scheme, using his power to undermine Pam’s husband and interfere with their daughter Linda’s upbringing. But when Harry has Linda moved to a public school, Pam is less than happy with her daughter’s progress and lifestyle, resenting her new friends, privileges and way of life. Based on a true story that takes us back to Oxford in the 1960’s, Bus to Queen’s Lane is a rich history of the five children and the family that lived, worked and played in that era, with detailed description of the times, places and characters dominated by the thriving car factories in a rural and developing Oxford suburb.
