Playing with convention in their use of slant rhyme and imagery of city life or time spent at the Jersey Shore, they are occasionally populated by humans, or an encounter with a person. But most often, their introspection carves out a solitary place within the poet's private headspace. Almost by chance, words seem to fall down a trapdoor of consciousness and appear immaculately on the naked white page. Abstract and autonomous, the poems could have been written from inside an asylum or a desert island--or marooned in the heart of Brooklyn. As the book's title suggests, Sigler has filtered out the distractions of everyday news and noise and honed in on something vulnerable, individualistic and honest.
