Cardiovascular Biomarkers in Children with Type 1 Diabetes: Focus on Homocysteine

Type 1 diabetes is one of the most common chronic diseases in children and adolescents. Despite therapeutic advances, these patients remain exposed to an increased cardiovascular risk, making the identification of early biomarkers essential to improve the screening and prevention of complications. Among them, homocysteine is attracting growing interest due to its involvement in endothelial dysfunction and atherogenesis.This book presents the results of a study conducted in children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes, evaluating plasma homocysteine levels and their relationships with glycemic control, lipid profile, and vascular complications.
