In 35 portrait sessions, photographer Carolin Schüten explores how women became who they are, what inspires them, drives them, and makes them happy. The photos are accompanied by personal statements and a text by biographer Anne Schlüter on the subject of happiness research. Text in English and German. What are you passionate about? What is it that sets you apart? What has captured your imagination since you were a child? These were the questions Carolin Schüten asked her subjects. In 35 portrait sessions, they worked together to create images focused on these themes. The result is a series of powerful, poetic photographs that reveal the rich inner worlds of these women. Following her photographic work on adolescence, Carolin Schüten became interested in how an individual’s life develops. How does someone become happy? How can they realise their potential? How do they become the person they are meant to be? Schüten is always driven by her interest in learning more about people’s emotional state in various phases of life and exploring these through her images; it is based on the belief that you can see something on the outside that speaks to what lies inside. The photographs are juxtaposed with personal statements by the subjects. Meanwhile, a text on the subject of happiness research by biographical researcher Anne Schlüter provides a deeper insight into this topic. Text in English and German.
