The story follows the crew of the Kestrel Ark as they enter the Cygnus Graveyard, a region filled with collapsed stars that defy normal physics and classification. While observing a dead star, they detect an impossible "sound" in space-non-electromagnetic resonance emerging from what should be total silence-which behaves less like an anomaly and more like structured, intentional decay. As the phenomenon intensifies, ship instruments begin translating reality itself into musical-like notation, and orbital debris around the star organizes into repeating, choreographed patterns that resemble a performance rather than random motion. The resonance doesn't just react to observation-it anticipates and harmonizes with the ship's movements, suggesting an intelligence or deeper system embedded within stellar death itself.
