Rookie cop Calvin Haggerty wants nothing more than to pass his field training to prove himself in his new career. But mistakes are easy to make, and he struggles to keep his interest for his single-but-straight field training officer in check. When an elusive bombmaker promises violence by summer's end, Calvin has to confront the very fears he's supposed to be shielding others from.Meanwhile, Calvin's field training officer Ben Kessler is dealing with his own problems. Blindsided by unexpected feelings for his best friend and trainee, Ben shoves his emotions aside and asks out a woman he has no interest in dating. When a chance run-in with the bombmaker leaves Ben injured and unable to remember the man's identity, he finds himself on leave and his relationship with Calvin on the verge of falling apart.As summer comes to a close, their only witness is killed before he can talk. Threats become action, and the town's namesake fair is the target. Calvin races to stop the attack, but he may be forced to decide who he can save-and what kind of officer he wants to be.
