Challenge the King: 3

Third in the Maine Allagash Gargouilles thriller series for adults and teens. The Bookseller's Daughter (2019) won the New York Book Festival Grand Prize, Protect the Queen (2023) won Best Sequel at the Hollywood Book Festival. La gargouille Luna is on the run with her dead sister's three babies, one of whom is in line for the crown. The king and his captain of the guard are out not only for her head but for the children's heads. A small group of humans from Wells, Maine (the bookseller's daughter Keegan, her best friend AJ, and the bookseller Maryann) and three cop friends--with the help of a veterinarian couple in Tamworth, New Hampshire--are desperately trying to hide them, which makes all of them targets, too. An unexpected alliance with Faucon, Luna's enemy who lost his leg to her, both helps and hinders the little gargouille pod, because the king's assassins are also hot on the one-legged giant's tail, but for a different reason. And then there is the evil Captain of the Guard Ronsomme. And what is TRIGAR and who's behind it?
