Recent reports published by the Quebec Ministry of Immigration, Diversity and Inclusion demonstrate the low level of economic integration amongst immigrants selected by the province. Data from Statistics Canada clearly show that Canadian-born individuals are more likely to find employment than landed immigrants. Based on the assumption that these aggregate figures conceal a deeper reality-namely, a dichotomy between political discourse and the socio-economic reality faced by immigrants once they have settled in Quebec-the aim of this book is to empirically analyse the integration process of Francophone immigrants and to evaluate the outcomes of existing integration measures. Using real-life cases drawn from ten years of experience in immigration consultancy, we will demonstrate the dichotomy that exists between political aspirations and reality. The analysis of each case presented will be carried out from the perspective of both the immigrants and the host society.
