Throughout the nineteenth-century, charitable efforts emerged from and were carried out through networks of individuals and public cooperative groups. The materials in this volume introduce readers to various forms and practices of collaborative philanthropy and royal patronage. Through contributions of money and time, many individuals made a variety of philanthropic enterprises possible.
