Child and adolescent psychiatry care in Austria

We live in a knowledge and service society. In addition, we are constantly subject to social change. Our children are not spared from the pressure to perform. Approximately half of all mental illnesses occur in childhood and adolescence. Although the field has a long tradition and history in Austria (special education), the specialised field of 'child and adolescent psychiatry' has only been recognised since 2007. The first part of this scientific paper focuses not only on the basics of child and adolescent psychiatry, but also on epidemiological data and a detailed analysis of the care situation in Austria (including a care map). The second part is devoted to empirical research: the findings from ten qualitative expert interviews are presented in an appropriate manner.
