Child's Tale is a lyrical psychological memoir of childhood in post-war Yugoslavia, where memory, depth psychology, and ancestral resilience converge in a journey toward healing and self-recognition for Narandja Milanovi¿ Eagleson -"I am not a mistake." Told through her lived, embodied perspective as a child, each vignette captures memory as it was stored in her body, before it was understood by her mind and heart. Isolated memories, Eagleson suggests, can dominate the psyche and tether us to trauma; healing begins when these visceral experiences are brought into relationship with other participants in the memories, including people, animals, artifacts, and landscapes. Through embodied imagination memory work and heart-rhythm meditation, Eagleson shows how frozen moments can soften and reorganize into dynamic, relational experiences, freeing not only the self but the others once held captive within the trauma.
