Circumstance

Lady Caroline Sutton accepted an offer from Lord Francis Fernleigh during a ball one evening. This was to be the last time she saw him for some years. Her father had refused her hand and thereafter, circumstance kept them separated. Now, through the tragic death of his elder brother, Francis has become his father's heir, a position he never coveted. Countless ladies would be interested in being the future Duchess of Hampshire, but Francis still thinks of Caroline. A repaired friendship with her elder brother gives him hope that he might be able to win her again, but there is another suitor with his sights on her. And she seems to look favourably on him as well. Will Caroline choose a future with Francis? Will the dashing Lord Woodford, or even some unknown gentleman, capture her heart?
